According to data from CBU Analytics, China registered 54,130 NEVs (including hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery EVs) in Q1 2017, up 11.61 percent, accounting for 1.11 percent of total passenger vehicle registration volume during the period. In March, new energy passenger vehicle registration ended a two-month decline and increased 43.93 percent to 11,162 units.
For the top 10 bestselling domestically-made NEVs in Q1 2017, Toyota and BYD each had three models, BAIC had two, while Roewe and Zotye each had one. Their combined sales were 43,873 units, accounting for nearly 70 percent of domestic NEV registration volume. The Toyota Corolla Hybrid ranked first again, selling 12,286 units, and combined with sister models – the Levin Hybrid and Camry Hybrid – the three models sold 21,842 units in Q1 2017.
For the top 10 bestselling imported NEVs in Q1 2017, Lexus had five models, Tesla had two, while Porsche, Infiniti and Volkswagen each had one. Their combined sales were 9,979 units, accounting for just about all of the imported NEV registration volume. The five NEV models of Lexus sold 6,941 units in Q1 2017.
